Healthy landscapes begin with healthy soil, yet many sites today struggle with compaction, poor drainage, low organic matter, and declining soil biology. This session will explore how soil alternatives, amendments and techniques can be used to restore soil function, improve plant performance, and create more resilient landscapes.
Participants will learn how alternative soil materials, composts, engineered blends, and other sustainable inputs can enhance soil structure, increase water-holding capacity, improve nutrient availability, and encourage beneficial microbial activity. The program will also discuss how soil health directly impacts root development, irrigation efficiency, plant establishment, and long-term landscape success.
Through practical examples and real-world applications, and exploring soil microbiome, attendees will gain a better understanding of how to evaluate existing soil conditions, select appropriate soil alternatives, and incorporate them into both new installations and renovation projects. Whether working in urban landscapes, commercial properties, or challenging growing environments, participants will leave with practical strategies to improve soil performance while supporting sustainability and long-term plant health.
