Prune Now, Prosper Later: The Case and “How-To” Guide for Young Tree Pruning | KC

For property owners, tree pruning is oftentimes an afterthought - the practice only comes to the forefront when trees become a nuisance in some way such as brushing up against a building, arching down into traffic, or blocking a desirable view. All valid reasons for pruning, however, if we are always waiting to prune reactively instead of proactively, we may permanently deform the trees’ structure, impair its health, or allow entrance of inordinate amounts of decay that will lead to failures down the road.

In this session, we will look at the many benefits of pruning trees while they are young, malleable, and resilient. Participants will learn how to identify and correct common structural defects, develop dominant leaders, manage competing stems, properly raise canopies, and make pruning cuts that support healthy growth without compromising tree vitality.
